Welcome to the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases

The Department of Cardiovascular Diseases of the German Heart Centre Munich together with the 1st Medical and Outpatients Department of Rechts der Isar Hospital constitute the Centre for Cardiovascular Diseases at the Technical University of Munich. This centre is one of the large specialised centres in Germany, performing over 5000 cardiac catheterisations annually. Therapeutic procedures, such as balloon dilatation and stent implantation, are constantly on the increase and presently account for half of all procedures.

A catheterisation team is available around the clock for treatment of patients with acute myocardial infarction. The period of time from the arrival of the myocardial infarction patient in the department to the reopening of the infarct-occluded vessel averages less than 70 minutes.

From a scientific point of view, the Centre for Cardiovascular Diseases is one of the most successful departments in Germany. The principal research interests are acute circulatory disturbances of the heart (unstable angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction), arrhythmias as well as fundamental research using molecular biological and genetic techniques.
