The Ronald McDonald house at the German Heart Centre Munich

The Ronald McDonald house is situated adjacent to the German Heart Centre Munich, and is the sixth of its kind in Germany. Nine comfortable apartments and common rooms, such as a kitchen, laundry room, recreation room, playroom and television room are located on an area of over 512 square metres.

One of the two caretakers lives in the house. Both caretakers and a number of volunteers are available at all times with help and advice for the families.

The total costs of the house amounting to approx. two million D-Marks were financed by donations, the majority of which came from Mc Donalds and its franchises. However, donors and sponsors from trade and commerce also gave generously. A lot of private individuals familiar with the project of “McDonald´s-Kinderhilfe” also give generous donations that are being used to maintain the existing houses and help build new facilities.

As the Ronald McDonald house was unable to meet the great demand of those requiring accommodation, the German Heart Centre provided the foundation with further rooms on the ground floor of the old hospital building on Lothstraße 11. The "McDonald`s-Kinderhilfe" has a further 1,044 square meters at its disposal in this building, sufficient space for 18 rooms for parents as well as common rooms, bringing the total number of apartments and rooms to 27.

In September, 2000 the “new” Ronald McDonald house was officially opened by the Bavarian Minister for Science, Research and Art, Hans Zehetmair.
